There are some schools out there that will tell you that you are not ready for your theory test knowing that you cannot apply for your driving test until you do, thus meaning more lessons and more money from the more unscrupulous Instructors or schools out there.
The Theory Test is split into two parts. The first part consists of 50 multiple choice questions, covering a range of subjects linked to road safety, documentation, environmental issues, etc. From 28th September 2009, 5 of the 50 questions will be based around a case study. The pass mark for this test is 43 out of 50. You have 57 minutes to complete this section. The second part of the test is hazard perception, after a few minutes break from the multiple choice questions you will be shown a series of 14 video clips in which you have to click on a mouse when you see a developing hazard on screen. It's not just a case on keep on clicking as some would have you believe, you only have a short window of opportunity to click for each hazard, you need to get 44 out of 75 points to pass the hazard perception test.
