Q1 - Describe how you would check the engine has sufficient oil?
Answer: Point to the dipstick—explain that you would check the oil when the engine is cold and the car is on level ground—you would remove the dipstick—wipe it—push it back in—take it out and check the level is in between the max/min marks.
The examiner often asks where you would top the oil up if it was low:- Point to the oil filler cap.
Q2 - How would you check the engine coolant level?
Answer: Point to the water coolant holder and say that the level should be between the min/max marks. (To find the level—you can bounce the car up and down—be careful where you push down)
To top up you would only open the filler cap when the engine is cold and top up with a mixture of water and anti-freeze as recommended in the car manual.
(NB—If engine was hot you could be badly scalded if you attempted to take the cap off)
